Environment

The environment is good to Dampier Salt - providing an abundant resource, the ocean, to produce our final product, salt. It is therefore vital that through our activities we, in turn, respect and take care of that environment. 

The long term success and sustainability of our business depends on how well we manage our impacts and maximise our opportunities to protect the environment. We will not put commercial progress ahead of environmental considerations and would stop production rather than harm our environment. Our stakeholders including governments, local communities and the Rio Tinto Group itself expect nothing less.

The Rio Tinto Environment policy and associated standards, translated through the Dampier Salt environmental management system, ensure we plan, control, monitor and record any environmental related aspect of our business.
