A Whale of a Time had at Lake Macleod Open Day

The Lake Macleod Operations Open Day held in August was a great success with the 233 available tickets selling out in the first week.

Many Dampier Salt volunteers sacrificed their Saturday to help. From tour guides, kitchen helpers and emergency response personnel – Dampier Salt employees turned out in force.

Our visitors had plenty to see thanks to the Maintenance Department setting up displays of engines and pumps and the process of growing salt.

Everyone who arrived on site was presented with a show bag containing information and a Rio Tinto goodie. They then went on to visit the crystalliser before calling into the crib room for a cup of tea and some cake.  But the best was yet to come...

Out the visitors went again to the coastline immediately adjacent to our operations. It was here that whales were seen frolicking in the water - all just part of the entertainment at a Dampier Salt Open Day!

Then they headed back to the crib room for a sausage sizzle and a walk around of our displays before heading home.

In all it was a great day, with just one hiccup – a bus went missing for about an hour. Nothing to worry about though, the tour group was caught up watching the wonderful whale exhibition.
